My Psy Potential

Diagnostic Doubt

Do you doubt the correctness of your psychiatric diagnosis? Are you dead scared that some fat-cat shrink will hang a board around your neck saying "Crazy"?

Yes.

Anybody who has run into mental health problems would answer 'yes' to one of the above questions. And the sad thing is, you may be pushed further into the situation where you are forced to see that fat-cat shrink. And if he asks you a few stupid questions and then scribbles a prescription for knock-out drugs, you've had it. Unless your diagnosis is accurate, and your medication well planned and carefully fitted to your unique body, you are in great danger of running into the 'revolving door'- situation. This is where a patient finds it necessary to go doctor-shopping, gets no satisfaction and eventually believes nobody can help. That is a fateful error and should never happen, but it does. Mypsypotential has been created in order to put control into your hands and the hands of your family doctor, so that you will be empowered to avoid that situation..

Psychiatry is like a jig-saw puzzle. The jig-saw puzzle comes your way as two thousand pieces in a box, and you have to piece them together one by one. Only the final picture, and nothing less than the final, complete picture will tell you what the jig-saw puzzle is all about. The jig-saw puzzle in psychiatry comes without a ready-made picture on the lid.

In order to get that picture, you need to go through the complete diagnostic process in the privacy of a computer. This will generate a full psychiatric report, which will be e-mailed to your doctor. Only your doctor and Mypsypotential will know what your name is, because your report will only contain Mypsypotential's confidential code pseudonym (false code name). If your doctor doesn't have e-mail, your report will be sent to him by courier. A report that is sent by courier will contain both your name and your confidential code pseudonym. This will be addressed as 'Private and Confidential' to your doctor, and be handled only by the courier service.

Then you and your trusted family doctor have all the data in hand which the fat cat shrink may miss, because if he spends more than half an hour on you before seeing the next patient, he won't be able to pay the mortgage on his luxury beach home. If you don't have access to a family doctor, rather don't make use of Mypsypotential. If you still want to make use of us, please contact us by e-mail.

Now please go to 'Your Full Assessment' and download the questionnaire. Complete every section in your own privacy. Be totally honest with yourself. That will give you truth itself as solid ground under your feet. Every section is saved on its own when completed. When you have completed the full questionnaire, first edit every section and make sure you are satisfied with all your answers. Then submit your completed questionnaire. In return for your effort, your data will be subjected to the scrutiny of a specialist psychiatrist. His diagnosis will be as accurate as it can be. You will have a full, formal Psychiatric Assessment ready and waiting at Mypsypotential.

Then make an appointment with your family doctor and make sure he knows what it is all about. Ask him or her to e- mail Mypsypotential. Your doctor gives your name and we have your name. The moment we have matched your name to your report, you get a secret coded pseudonym (a false name code) which only your doctor and Mypsypotential knows. From that point on, we do not use your name at all. In this way we ensure your complete anonymity, and through that total confidentiality.

If your doctor has any problems with your diagnosis, he will be encouraged by Mypsypotential to get a second or third opinion from any specialist of his own choice. On the other hand, we at Mypsypotential will make a point of clearing up all our doubts by getting further expert opinions on your behalf.

After establishing exactly what your problem is, Mypsypotential will support your doctor step by step in handling it for you. That is when communication with your doctor is extremely important, until you are satisfied that your medication suits your individual body needs, that the side effects are acceptable and that your symptoms are under proper control. Your doctor, on the other hand, has free access to Mypsypotential.

So you will have more than a first and second opinion straightaway, based on the complete data you gathered yourself. A diagnosis between two or more doctors who have full information to go on, will be as accurate as it gets. On the other hand, there may be no diagnosis. That would set you free from the fat cat and his hasty mis-diagnosis.

No diagnosis?

Yes, it is possible. For instance, if you have been using street drugs of any description, and you never had any psychiatric problems before you started using, your full assessment will show that your only problem is - most probably- your drug usage. If you have been hurt, either as kid or as an adult, that in itself can cause symptoms, because you have to adjust. And to adjust to bad stuff you have to feel, and you have to know what you feel. That is not a symptom, but you have to be taught how to handle those feelings. Some people can do that without medication.

Before you begin, make sure you know how much it will cost you. Let me assure you, it is a minute fraction of the eventual price you could pay for landing yourself in the 'revolving door' - situation. If we need to make use of a courier, the cost of the courier will be added to your credit card payment. If you don't complete the little section at the end on how your family doctor should be contacted, your form will not be accepted, neither will your credit card payment.

So, completing your full assessment with honesty and accuracy will put this powerful argument in your hands. You may save yourself from a lifetime of trouble. And you may avoid becoming part of the everlasting stigma of psychiatry.

Greetings,

Dr. Blom.
